Magic Shows For Libraries--Summer Reading Programs and Beyond
Full of interactive magic, comedy, illusion, and FUN, The Steelgraves' family-friendly show is just the draw you need to get more families to the library and inspire kids to READ.
Markus and I both of us spent many blissful hours in the library during our childhoods. Sadly, in this "digital age", it's becoming more of a challenge to keep kids reading during summer vacation. Your library works hard to spark that life-long love of reading and books; when it comes to the programs you provide for your wide range of readers, you want to bring in programming that meets your library's unique needs. The Steelgraves' magical theatre performances are the perfect solution!
Appealing to a wide range of ages? --Yes!
Your library's programs attract everyone from young children to adults. The show is designed with that in mind; it's great for ages 4 to 94! (Be aware that children younger than 4 may not fully appreciate or understand a magic show, but they are welcome to attend with siblings and parents.)
Promotes reading and an enjoyment of books? --Absolutely!
In fact, after the show, you'll find that all the books on magic may "disappear" quickly from the shelves! We emphasize during the show that anything can be learned and many adventures can be enjoyed through books. In fact, Markus first became intrigued with magic as a child, by reading a book about Harry Houdini. He learned his first tricks from books, and still prefers that method over today's more "popular" media methods. At the end of every show, kids learn the "magic number": 793.8!
Relevant to libraries and reading? --Definitely!
What's more, the CSLP's yearly Summer Reading Program theme is always creatively incorporated into the summer shows, making this a worthwhile investment into your overall summer reading program enrichment activities. Photos below are of just some of the themed shows we've presented.
Self-contained and hassle-free? --Always!
Although these shows involve a lot more than a briefcase of magic tricks, we bring everything we need to perform a fully-staged show--including a full backdrop, and sound system with music and microphones so everyone can hear. All you need to provide is a cleared space (outdoors is fine!) and electricity. There are no complicated demands, and the Performance Agreement is simple and easy to understand!
Affordable? --In just about every case!
